To help decide which preservative treatment is the most appropriate for your timbers there are various systems available based on industry standards and experience.
Use Classes
The Use Class system, defined in BS EN 335-1, helps to classify the levels of preservative protection required, depending upon the timber's eventual end use. The table below illustrates the system and the appropriate Arch treatments for each Use Class.
The Wood Protection Association has developed a series of Commodity Codes for specifications that classify particular end uses of timber shown below. The appropriate Arch treatment is shown.
The National Building Specification Z12 identifies specific clauses relating to the technology of preservative treatments that should be used for particular timber end uses. The table below shows the appropriate Arch treatments for these clauses.
